How do people buy and sell guilds? - Guild Wars Forums

I see Guilds up for sale in the Auctions section and I can't help but wonder, how do people do these transactions? You can't put a Guild in the trade window. Either the buyer pays first and crosses his fingers that the seller bumps him up to leader instead of running off with his money or the seller bumps the buyer up to leader and hopes he gets paid.

It is this principle that makes me wonder whether these types of transactions are fraught with dishonesty, or if there is a fair method of conducting it? The trade of Guilds is condoned by Guru, since there is a section for it in the Auction House, so I can't help but think there might be a more steadfast method of trading in this manner that I'm not thinking of.

Explanations?

There is never guaranteed honesty as anyone can do whatever they want. We would just hope the person on the other end will be as honest as ourselves. Besides, you can get banned hardcore for defrauding people in GW now apparently, really not worth the trouble to make mass plat and end up getting banned.

There is a moderator involved in most cases. This moderator acts as a middle man for the guild transfer.

I believe it goes like...the buyer gives the money to the moderator, then the leader of the guild transfers ownership to the buyer, and then the moderator gives the money to the seller when the guild transfer has gone through. The moderator usually requires some sort of commission for the transfer, usually around 5-10 ectos (sometimes requires a percentage of the buying price of the guild), but since the moderator is an outside, unbiased party, it is worth it to get a good trade through. Just make sure you get a reputable moderator.

Billiard, a moderator on guru and a poster on qq forums, does a lot of high-end guild moderation. So, he's very reputable.
